LegalTerms of Service
Terms of Service
- In effect from
- Version
- 1.2
The short version
- These terms cover substrates.in and Viveka.
- Keep your API keys private. You are responsible for the data you submit and how your application uses the output.
- A confident answer can still be wrong. Test your workflow and provide appropriate human review and fallbacks.
- API content is not collected for training by default. Using the service is not consent to optional training or evaluation.
- Paid access follows the price and billing terms you accept. Contact support@substrates.in for billing issues, complaints or help ending access.
Scope
These terms are an agreement between you and Substrate Labs, Mumbai, India. They cover substrates.in and Viveka, our typed decision API. They do not amend an existing agreement for a different service. If you use Viveka for an organisation, you confirm that you can accept these terms on its behalf, and “you” includes that organisation.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. A separate written agreement with us takes priority over these terms where the two conflict.
Access and API keys
- Eligibility: you must be at least 18 and legally able to enter this agreement. Provide accurate information when requesting access. Joining a waitlist does not guarantee access or an availability date.
- API keys: keep them private and use them from your server. You are responsible for use through keys issued to you. Tell us promptly at support@substrates.in if a key is exposed or used without permission so we can disable or replace it.
- Access limits: do not share keys publicly, bypass authentication or evade usage limits. Access may be subject to quotas, rate limits and the conditions agreed when your key is issued.
What Viveka returns
Viveka takes the state, question, options or criteria you provide and returns a choice, a score or a yes/no probability. It is designed for questions answerable from that input. It does not supply missing world knowledge or execute actions in your software.
An answer can be wrong even when confidence is high. Probabilities and benchmark results are not guarantees about an individual answer or your workload.
Before relying on the output:
- Test with representative examples.
- Choose confidence thresholds for your workflow.
- Provide a fallback for uncertain or incorrect answers.
You decide how outputs are used and which actions your application takes. Do not rely on Viveka alone for decisions affecting health, legal rights, employment, credit, insurance or personal safety. Use appropriate human review and meet the requirements that apply to your use.
Your inputs and outputs
You retain your rights in the content you submit. You give us permission to process it to provide the requested service, secure the service and meet applicable legal obligations.
We do not claim ownership of your inputs or of rights you may hold in the outputs. Outputs may be similar to those returned to other users.
Send only data you have permission and a lawful basis to process. Provide any notices and obtain any consent required from the people whose data you submit. Remove unnecessary identifiers and never include passwords, private keys or payment-card details in a decision request.
API content is not collected for model training by default. Training or evaluation use requires a separate, explicit opt-in. Using Viveka or accepting these terms is not that opt-in.
Any optional contribution will have its purpose, collection and retention terms explained before you choose.
If your use needs a separate data-processing agreement or specific handling guarantees, agree those with us before sending the affected data.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to:
- Break the law or violate another person’s privacy or intellectual property.
- Exploit children, impersonate someone, distribute malware or send spam.
- Access another customer’s data, attack or overload the service, evade safeguards or obtain access beyond what we have authorised.
- Copy, resell or reverse-engineer our software, except as permitted by law or a separate agreement.
Report security issues to support@substrates.in. We may restrict access to investigate abuse or protect users and the service.
Fees and billing
- Before payment: the price, billing unit, taxes, payment timing and any refund or credit terms are provided before you agree to pay. A starting price on the website does not by itself create a paid plan or payment obligation.
- Currency and tax: prices are in Indian rupees and exclude GST unless stated otherwise.
- Price changes: we give at least 30 days’ notice before a change applies to your existing paid arrangement. You may stop using the service before it takes effect. Changes do not apply retrospectively to usage already incurred.
- Billing issues: contact support@substrates.in with the relevant billing details. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer or refund rights.
Availability and model changes
The API may be unavailable, rate-limited or slower after an idle period. Published latency and benchmark figures describe measured conditions; they are not a service-level agreement. We provide an uptime or response-time commitment only in a separate written agreement.
We may update models, supported endpoints and usage limits. An alias such as “latest” may point to a different model over time. Use a named model version where reproducibility matters, and test changes before relying on them. We will give reasonable advance notice of material changes to paid access where practicable, except when urgent security or legal action is needed.
Website and communications
The website, Newsroom and status information describe our services and work. They do not add guarantees to these terms. Surveys are optional. Access requests and status subscriptions are handled as described in the Privacy Policy, and you can unsubscribe from optional emails.
Intellectual property
We retain our rights in the website, models, API software and Substrate and Viveka branding. These terms permit use of the service; they do not transfer ownership of it. Third-party software remains subject to its own licences.
You may share links to our public articles and quote them as permitted by law. We may use feedback you choose to provide to improve the service. Sending feedback does not give us permission to train on your API content.
Ending access
You can stop making API calls and ask us to disable your keys at any time. You remain responsible for charges already incurred under an agreed paid arrangement.
We may suspend or end access for a serious breach, non-payment, security risk or legal requirement. Where practicable, we explain the reason and give you a chance to resolve it. Data deletion and any continued retention follow the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Responsibility and limits
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, it is otherwise provided as available, without a promise that outputs will be accurate, fit every purpose or be uninterrupted.
Neither party is responsible to the other for indirect losses, including lost profits or opportunities, to the extent the law permits this exclusion.
Our total liability for claims under these terms is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the preceding 12 months and ₹10,000.
These limits do not apply to fraud, gross negligence, wilful misconduct or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing removes rights available under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or other mandatory law.
Law, complaints and disputes
Indian law governs these terms, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you. Contact support@substrates.in first so we can try to resolve a disagreement. If it remains unresolved after 30 days, the courts in Mumbai have jurisdiction, except where mandatory law provides otherwise.
We acknowledge service complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days. Privacy requests follow the Privacy Policy. You retain any right to approach a competent authority or forum.
Changes to these terms
We publish changes here with an effective date and change history. We give existing paid customers at least 30 days’ notice of material changes unless a legal or urgent security requirement needs a shorter period. You can stop using the service before revised terms take effect. A change to these terms does not count as consent to optional training use.
